Maker: Louis Delaitre (Master Cabinet Maker).
Stamped but very worn on left shoulder Louis Delaitre received master on November 17, 1738 the reputation of an excellent cabinetmaker as a craftsman he produced, until 1750 in his workshop on rue Saint Nicolas in Paris, Louis XV and Regency style furniture. chests of drawers of fairly massive shape in Kingwood wood; Exhibition of the great cabinetmakers, museum of decorative arts in 1955 and 1956.
Also bearing the cabinet maker guild stamp which is visible JME on the same shoulder. In 1751 a parliamentary rule was passed that required all cabinet-makers and joiners to be granted a stamp by their respective guilds in order to be able to practice their craft. The stamp with the maker’s name is often accompanied by the initials ‘JME’ which stands for ‘Jurande Menuisiers Ebénistes’, the cabinetmakers and joiners guild, further proof that he had been officially accepted into the guild.
