Royal Worcester porcelain Limoges enamel decorated plate by Thomas Bott Snr c.1860

An exceptional Royal Worcester piece, this beautiful plate has a cobalt blue background with gilt borders and rim. The centre features a gilt anthemion border, and the low raised sides are decorated in white enamel with erotes in medallions between fields of foliage framing grotesque masks. There are two impressed factory marks on the underside, together with the gilder’s signature ‘RS’, probably standing for Samuel Ranford.

A Worcester plate with near identical decoration was exhibited at the 1862 London International Exhibition.

There are scratches to the blue background and enamelling to one side of the plate, and small scratches to the blue centre.
