Our lecture series is starting for 2023. First up we have the wonderful Jason Brown from Ashcotte Decorative Arts talking about antiques from the Art Nouveau period.

An artistic journey from the Pre-Raphaelites through the Bel Epoque to the death of beauty in 1914.

The talk will cover the restrained cult of beauty of the Pre-Raphaelites and Arts and Crafts from 1850, to the languid sensual excess of the sirens of Art Nouveau and its death in 1914. In particular it will examine the “male gaze” and the changing attitude to women as seen through the art.

The journey will be accompanied by pictures and artefacts of the period.

Jason Brown has been a collector of the art and objects of the period for forty years, with a significant personal collection, some of which will be available for personal examination.
